Ultimation of the Radio Occultation and Heavy Precipitation aboard PAZ (ROHP-PAZ) experiment

Description:
The Earth Observation Group of the Institute of Space Sciences, ICE (CSIC/IEEC) is in charge of the Radio Occultation and Heavy Precipitation aboard PAZ (ROHP-PAZ) experiment, expected to be launch H2 2017. The group requires an expert in polarimetric GNSS radio-occultations to contribute ultimating the preparation of the experiment, including contributions to the ICE's segment of the processing chain, separation of effects, retrieval algorithms and inversion or assimilation schemes.

Tasks:
  • Generate synthetic data using ICE's own models in amounts and situations that are representative to the overall conditions to be found by the experiment across the Globe and Seasons, especially relevant to ionospheric and tropospheric conditions.
  • Develop algorithm to attempt to separate the different contributions to the polarimetric GNSS-RO signal (e.g. hydrometeors, instrumental issues, ionospheric effects...)
  • Contribute to the development of inversion schemes and/or data assimilation strategies.
  • Analysis of actual experimental data collected with GNSS-RO in polarimetric mode.
  • Participation of experimental campaigns
Profile:
  • High degree in physics or engineering, or their corresponding PhD
  • Proved experience in polarimetric GNSS-RO
  • Able to program in python, user of mySQL
Dedication: Full time

Length of the contract: 8 months
