Software engineer for the PLATO ESA-mission follow-up scheduler

We are offering a position for a Software Engineer at Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC), in Barcelona. The candidate will join a group with a large experience in developing control software for the operation and control of astronomical instrumentation and robotic telescopes. The successful candidate will work on the implementation of control software for the coordination of activities among ground-based telescope facilities and space missions and, in particular, will work on the development of AI tools for the PLATO follow-up scheduler.

Candidates with BSc or MSc degree in computer science will be considered. The candidate should have good background and experience in programming in Python, C/C++, and Java programming languages. She/he should have experience in Linux environment and in all phases of software development life cycle: requirements, design, implementation, documentation and testing. She/he should have also a good background in backend/frontend developments with technologies as Pyramid, Djando, React, Polymer.

Knowledge of AI technologies applied to scheduling and control problems and of basic positional astronomy will be valued. Candidates should posses English language skills.

The position will be initially a 18 months appointment, but it can be extended up to a total of 3 years depending on the availability of funds. A starting date in January/February 2020 is foreseen.
